I Hate Cold Weather

Ugh, it's 11 degrees here right now with a high of 16 for the day. I'm thankful I don't live further north, but this is too cold for me also. Oddly I have never gotten accustomed to the cold winters Kentucky has in the 27 years I've lived here. I guess I got spoiled as a child by living in places like Georgia, South Carolina and Arizona.

I am so ready for Spring, but of course I dread the bugs that will bring. But you always have to take the bad with the good.

As you can guess, my room is an icebox right now, so I've been sleeping in the loft and my brother's room (when he's not in there of course) because they are much warmer areas.

The other day I foolishly went out without a coat on to pick up some food. I really wasn't aware of how cold it was as I hadn't checked and hadn't been out. I was dressed with a sweater on and was kind of hot, so I figured running down the street to pick up some food wouldn't be too bad. Well, I was wrong.

Despite the fact that it was REALLY cold out, it was also snowing rapidly at the time, and so by the time I got from the house to the car my black shirt was white. And I didn't heat the car up, so the whole way to the restaurant I was shaking and wondering why I had been so stupid.

The snow didn't stick, which is usually the case around here, but it was enough to add to the cold as the snow melted on my clothes making them wet. So there I was wet, cold and without a coat clinging to the hot food to keep me warm.

I'm obviously not of the same mind as my friend Chuck Kennedy who loves the snowy winters he's getting near Chicago. The man's insane going out at 3am to shovel snow! I couldn't do it. Give me Florida or California any day. I like snow on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Beyond that I could live without the stuff. That said, I do feel for Jason and Ray who are burning up in the hot Australian nights right now! I've lost track of where Cary is at the moment, but he's probably in warm weather too, while Jenny, I'm sure, is feeling the cold of Philadelphia.

Apparently, however, I am as lame as Chuck claims to be because I too have just spent an entire post talking about the weather.

Whoas and Woes

Well, I went to the dentist yesterday, and good news is they can help me. Bad news is it's going to cost me $1410 over four months just for some temp work, meaning I have to have 25% down this week ($352.50), which I don't have!

I've been trying like crazy to find some freelance work to raise the cash to no avail so far. I just used a few of my last dollars to put up some ads through Project Wonderful in hopes they'd bring me some work, so we'll see how that goes.

So needless to say, I'm currently for hire for lettering, pre-press, banners (no Flash), logos, or even writing or editing services if anyone's interested!

Contact me at gonzogoose@brantfowler.com or brant@brantfowler.com for rates and all that good stuff.

Here are the ads I put out in case anyone comes across them so you'll know who they're from, like you couldn't tell. :)

It's cold here today! Yesterday it was a little nippy, about 60 degrees or so, and the wind was really high, but today I woke up freezing! We had to turn the heat on to get the chill out. That's the crazy thing about Kentucky weather. It can be 75 one day and 40 the next all year round. No consistency, no dependability, just a mess.

Because of the cold, a bit of my congestion came back overnight. I'm still up and at 'em and able to work and all that, I'm just congested and still occasionally coughing is all.

Not much else to talk about really. I've only been up for about an hour, so I'm still half asleep. Maybe I'll check back in later, maybe not.

Ice and Idol

Well, the ice storm isn't THAT bad yet, but they did cancel school and various activities tomorrow, so the roads must be a bit treacherous. We've still got power, though, so that's a good thing.

As for American Idol, well, I was really close! Of the guys, Garrett went home, as I thought he would. But I was surprised that Luke didn't. However, when Chikezie and Colton were called up there, I thought for sure it would be Chikezie, but I was wrong. So Colton and Garrett were eliminated.

Now, Colton's performance wasn't great, but I personally thought it was better than the ones by Luke, Chikezie and Jason. Maybe his personality got him voted off? I mean he is kind of bland and vanilla, so who knows?

As for the girls, I was almost right on the money. I picked three bottom girls and named two of them to go home. Well, two of those three did go home, but I got Joanne and Kristy switched in my prediction.

The competition is still fairly where I thought it would be, and so far, America isn't voting too badly. Hopefully that continues.

Icey

Why, oh, why is Kentucky bad for ice storms?! It appears we have another one that's supposed to hit today. This morning there was one city in KY that cancelled school, another that was releasing early. Now, the list has grown quite a bit, and my brother's school now let's out at 11:30am.

We've had two really bad ice storms in the past 15 years, and during both of them there was tons of power outages. We were without power for 3 days in the last one, others were without power for anywhere up to 2 weeks! The last one we had after those was a lot milder, but still caused problems.

I'm hoping this one won't be as serious as all that. I mean so far we haven't even gotten any rain or snow since Tuesday (and only a small flurry then), but it's like 15 degrees out right now and it does look like the sky's ready to unleash something at any given moment.

So, while I don't think it will be that serious, if for whatever reason you don't hear from me, that's why. Otherwise I'll definitely be here. What else am I gonna do, right?

Raining and Pouring

It's storming pretty bad here right now, fork lightning, scary house-shaking thunder and torrents of rain. The lights have already flickered, so if I go MIA today at all you know why. Just a heads up for all you out there.
